Amira is a Calisthenics athlete and inspiration for many looking to get into bodyweight strength training. She has picked up new skills very quickly in the short time she has been doing Calisthenics and is a great example of what you can achieve if you train consistently.

How long have you been doing calisthenics?

1.5 years.

What made you start calisthenics?

I got bored of lifting weights at the gym. I was also super inspired to get into calisthenics after I saw some videos of people doing muscle ups and levers.

How often do you train?

I used to train almost everyday, but then I started to plateau with my progress. I realised taking days to recover makes a huge difference. Now I train 4-5 times a week and have been smashing more goals!

Has there been anyone who has inspired you (a popular calisthenics athlete for example)?

Melanie Driessen is my all time favourite female calisthenics athelete. She is so strong and it’s super inspiring how she keeps pushing herself to try creative new things.

What are your calisthenics goals for 2018?

I plan to work on planche, levers, handstand presses and dynamic bar tricks such as muscle up 360.

What’s your favourite calisthenics move?

Slow muscle up is my favourite move.

What would you say to anyone just starting out with calisthenics?

To push yourself to try new things and not give up if you can’t get a move within a few attempts.

It’s important to know that skills take a lot of time and effort.
